Studying abroad isn’t just about a new city or language. It’s about how you change, the challenges, the discoveries, and the voice you carry from home.

Welcome to With An Accent, the podcast of Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore where our international students tell their stories. Each episode is focused on one specific aspects of moving abroad and adapting to a different culture and context, from the first days on campus to the moment you eventually feel like you belong.

Our host is Mateo Medina Abad. He’s from Colombia and he is a 2nd year student of the Master’s in Communication for Business, Media, and Culture.

Expectations vs Reality

In this episode, Henry Durán, a Mexican student of the Bachelor's in Economics and Management, tells the story of how he managed to overcome the first difficult moments of adapting to a new context. Then something changed: the culture clash became a human exchange, and an internship in Sweden with other Cattolica students changed his life for ever. Sometimes, all it takes you feel like you belong is to let go of your expectations, make the first move, and realise you're braver and stronger than you think.

New Culture, New Rules

Meet Liju Feng, a Taiwanese student in the Master’s in Communication for Business, Media, and Culture at Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore. In this episode of With An Accent, she joins Mateo to talk about culture shock, everyday rituals, and the surprising ways that “clashes” between cultures can turn into meaningful connection.
From the art of chatting with strangers to why coffee in the morning matters, Liju and Mateo’s laughter-filled conversation shows how two very different worldviews can still create a fantastic friendship across continents.
