Life in Milan

This page is dedicated to incoming exchange/study abroad students who are arriving to Cattolica’s Milan campus.

Here you can find all the important resources that will be useful to you at the beginning, as well as during your entire stay at Cattolica.

Milan is a very well connected city that is divided into zones. The central area of Milan includes zone Mi1-Mi3.

A basic fare ticket that can be purchased for € 2.20, to be used on all forms of public transport in the city (Metro, bus, tram) includes zones Mi1-Mi3. Tickets are valid for 90 minutes after the first validation, and can be used multiple times on various forms of transport within that time.

We recommend to International students to get the monthly pass, which is a cost effective way to use the public transport system.

In order to sign up for the monthly card you can go to an ATM office in person or apply online if you have the official Fiscal Code (not the automated one given by Cattolica).
You will need a passport-sized picture for the application so you can bring one from home or take a new set of pictures at the photo booth in the metro station.

You will need to pay € 10 euro for the card as a one-off payment, and top it up each month for 22 euro (under 27 years old).

  • Please note that the 20th of the month is the last possible day to top up for that month. You can top-up more than one month’s worth of credit on the card.
  • Go to the ATM point to make an appointment if you are unable to book it on the app.
  • Once you have got the card you can top up the card at the machines, at the ATM point office or at the newpaper kiosk in the station.
  • If you applied for the monthly pass online, you need to go to the machine in the station called ‘Tessy’ and print the card.
  • If you lose the card you can go to the ATM point and request another one, paying € 15 and recuperate the money that was on your old card.

Check the official ATM website for more information.
