Nine months, nine countries, and a suitcase full of books
by Laura Bebre Lisa Rebecca Gunnarsson, now an ambitious 24-year-old Psychology student at Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore and a creative storyteller for Cattolica International, comes from the small town of Berga in Sweden. We sat down with Lisa, smiling and effortlessly cool, on an early sunny summer afternoon among the chattering students in the cloisters of the University to talk about how the life-changing journey shaped her experience and brought her to Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore. Whilst there, Lisa was CouchSurfing and a lovely New Yorker opened her home to Lisa and showed her the bustling city life. After exploring the Big Apple, Lisa continued her journey in Peru, where she sandboarded the sandy desert dunes in the small oasis village of Huacachina and overcame the fear of heights in the famed Inca citadel of Machu Picchu. Her last stop before returning to Sweden was Vietnam, where Lisa went on a five-day long Ha Giang motorbike loop in the mountains of North Vietnam, circling the narrow turns and exploring the stunning scenery of beautiful mountains and river valleys full of marvellous rice terraces. After looking for possible psychology degrees abroad to combine her passion for travel and her quest to understand human nature, Lisa found Università Cattolica in Milan, Italy, and its entirely new English-taught Psychology bachelor’s degree . But, before the future comes, Lisa is continuing her Psychology degree at Università Cattolica and occasionally indulging in a cup of her favourite speciality coffee at Nowhere Café near the University with a good book in hand.
Studying Banking and Finance in Italy: Filip’s Next Chapter Beyond the Basketball Court
Driven to grow beyond sports, Filip found purpose in finance, inspired by Milan’s academic environment and standout faculty . Growing up in Serbia, Filip Radisic never had a specific profession in mind – just a basketball in hand . Filip transferred his credits to Lithuania, enrolling in a North American-style university with a strong basketball culture – and one much closer to home. He graduated, but another crossroad came into view – this time sharper, more urgent: pursue professional basketball or commit to further studies ? Filip took a moment to pause – not just to rest, but to reflect. His cousin was studying at Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Milan and spoke highly of the experience. The MSc in Banking and Finance felt serious, structured – exactly the kind of challenge Filip was ready to take on. Now enrolled in the programme at Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, he’s diving into complex financial concepts, supported by professors he describes as “competent, profound, and detail oriented.”. With the mindset he learned through basketball, Filip believes in embracing the choices we make and loving the place we are in .

The new age of internationalisation
Home News &; Stories Higher ed. experts The new age of internationalisation The new age of internationalisation During unprecedented times for higher education amidst a global pandemic, the question of internationalisation, one of the cornerstones of modern education, remains as relevant as ever. Considering our past and our mission, what will be the future pillars of internationalisation at Università Cattolica? Pier Sandro Cocconcelli: The story of the internationalisation of our University goes back to the years of its foundation. If you had asked this same question three years ago, my answer would probably be to continue increasing student mobility, English-taught courses and to promote internationalisation at home, which are all some of the pillars of internationalisation. Edilio Mazzoleni: The first phase of our internationalisation strategy focused on increasing the number of students going abroad and the number of international students coming to study at Università Cattolica. In this first phase, we also created the Centre for Internationalisation of Higher Education (CHEI) to support the internationalisation process within the University. What are the next steps our University intends to take to enable our entire student body to experience true internationalisation? Pier Sandro Cocconcelli: Firstly, internationalisation at home starts with increasing the number of English-taught courses and programmes.
The Heartfelt Art of Understanding: A Story Listener's Journey
Home News &; Stories Students and alumni The Heartfelt Art of Understanding: A Story Listener's Journey The Heartfelt Art of Understanding: A Story Listener's Journey. Olga developed a great curiosity in people : in their behaviour, in their way of thinking and in how they feel. As a writer, Olga also thought that being in psychology would allow her to write about people’s world, about their minds and how their different ways of acting and thinking could affect their lives. Being at her university, Olga used her ability as a story listener as a daily occurrence, always trying to learn from each one of the stories she heard, treasuring and seeking to comprehend the person behind it. It is something as magical as the virtue she possesses to listen to stories, but Olga would discover that later. Olga began to understand that being a story listener served her not only to gain knowledge but also to help others deal with their matters . Graduating from her degree in psychology, Olga began to develop an interest to work with grieving and death and from these topics, she wrote her master’s thesis.

The turning points he embraced throughout his journey at Università Cattolica, though they seemed different at first, came together to shape Aldo’s path in the best way.

When we are producing joint publications and other types of collaborations, we feel that this can improve the global rankings particularly the ranking systems that take into consideration international partnerships and collaborations because international publications are more highly cited than publications that are not international. Say hello to ChatGPT, the AI so witty and charming, you'll forget it's just a bunch of ones and zeros. But don’t blame me, I didn’t write it – ChatGPT did: “Write a short, funny and creative introduction to an article about ChatGPT.”. In late November 2022, the world’s attention was brought to the launch of a chatbot: ChatGPT, created by San Francisco-based OpenAI and within a week it had already reached over a million users. Google will answer your question by searching for the answer, whilst ChatGPT creates the answer. But the main difference, Professor Passarotti explains, is that ChatGPT was exposed to an impressive count of 300 billion words during training 1 (for reference, the average vocabulary of an adult, for one’s native language, is 20,000 – 35,000 words 2 , sorry Johnny). And as ChatGPT’s future role is yet to be determined, at least one thing seems certain, as Professor Passarotti smiles and says, "It is a new colleague, and it is here to stay.”. " With ChatGPT, you'll never run out of things to say - just try not to fall in love with your virtual conversationalist!" You are viewing 2-year graduate degree in Linguistic Computing.

Student life in Lincoln, Nebraska
Home News &; Stories Students and alumni Student life in Lincoln, Nebraska Student life in Lincoln, Nebraska Since childhood, the Brazilian-born and Italian-raised Isadora Mapelli had a dream of travelling and living abroad. When she started studying Political Sciences and International Relations at Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, Isadora didn’t lose any time applying for a study abroad programme. In January 2022, Isadora finally embarked on her dream trip and crossed the ocean to spend five months at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln (UNL) experiencing some movie-worthy moments and gaining memories that will last a lifetime. While typically students tend to opt for more popular destinations in the USA such as New York or California, Isadora settled for Nebraska as the courses there suited her best and she was anything but disappointed. Isadora loved the university, and the new professors and approach helped her gain a broader perspective on alternative study methods. Together with other international students, Isadora got to experience what typical American student life looks like, not short of sororities, spring break trips and Formals that European students typically only see in movies. Right now, Isadora is integrating back into life at Università Cattolica and catching up with her friends and family in Italy, but she cannot wait for her next adventure and is already thinking about options for doing a full master’s degree abroad.
