Medicine and Surgery - Transfer to the Second or Third year

This page outlines the application process for international students who wish to transfer into the second or third year (depending on the available seats, respectively) of the English-taught Medicine and Surgery programmes (either the one administered in Rome, or the one based in Bolzano).
 

The procedure is selective and based on an academic evaluation of your previous studies, followed by an entrance exam.

Please read all requirements and deadlines carefully before applying. 

  
  • This Competition is exclusively open to non-EU applicants living outside Italy. 
  • You are not eligible if you: 
    • hold dual citizenship including an EU nationality, or 
    • are already residing in Italy and have applied for or obtained a Permesso di Soggiorno (permit of stay) during the current academic year. 

 

Available seats (Academic Year 2026–2027)
  • Second year (Rome): 1 seat
  • Third year (Rome): 6 seats 
  • Third year (Bolzano): 3 seat 

You may apply for one option only. These choices are mutually exclusive.

Step-by-step guide
 
  1. Review the Competition Call 
    • Although the full document is in Italian, Allegato A is available in English. 
    • It lists the topics and learning outcomes covered in the first years of our Medicine programmes. 
    • Use this to assess whether your previous studies are suitable for transfer. 
       
  2. Access the online application portal 
    • Follow the instructions provided in the application system. 
       
  3. Complete the application form and upload documents
    You must provide: 
    • An official transcript from your current university 
    • Detailed syllabi (course content) for all modules and exams 
       
  4. Pay the application fee 
    • Fee: € 250 
    • The application is only valid once payment is completed by the deadline 
    • The fee is non-refundable, in all circumstances and irrespective of the reason provided 
  
1. Academic evaluation

Your application and supporting documents will be reviewed by the Faculty to assess the compatibility of your previous studies with the programme’s Course Plan. 

 

2. Eligibility outcome

From 17 June 2026 you will receive feedback on whether you are eligible to sit the Entrance Exam for transferring students. 

 

3. Entrance Exam

Admission is based on your performance in: 

  • Written test: 24 June 2026

  • Interview: 1 July 2026 

 

4. Final results

Final rankings are expected from 8 July 2026 


Your exam score will determine whether you can enrol in the selected year of the chosen programme (either Rome or Bolzano).
