Youthfulness and the Future: Being 20 in 2025
Home News &; Stories Research &; Faculty Youthfulness and the Future: Being 20 in 2025 Youthfulness and the Future: Being 20 in 2025 As populations age and younger generations become fewer, economies must find new ways to sustain growth, productivity, and social welfare. It is an unprecedented phenomenon, as historically young people have always been the majority in all populations (Livi Bacci 2011); the main source of economic growth and a major push for social innovation.”. Thus, dejuvenation is not simply a way to describe the progressive ageing of the population but a weakening of the perspective and expectations that youth typically bring toward the future. The term “ageing” describes the increasing number of older adults, while “dejuvenation” highlights a different yet complementary aspect – namely, that as the elderly population grows and lives longer, the number of young people is declining. Yet, despite fewer young people, Italy and other mature economies have not significantly increased investments in education, housing, or innovation – the very areas that would support youth. This illustrates how dejuvenation has both a qualitative and quantitative dimension: by investing in qualitative actions that improve the condition of young people, helping them develop skills to innovate and create new jobs through their ideas, we inevitably create a positive quantitative impact . A leading scholar in demographic trends and youth studies, he serves as the Scientific Coordinator of the Youth Observatory at the Toniolo Institute and the Youth Condition Observatory for the Lombardy Region.
For Monica Iyer, this decision was not just a path but a callingone that has profoundly shaped her academic and professional journey, driving her unwavering commitment to protecting human rights, especially those who are often overlooked. Monica Iyer, currently a lawyer and international law &; human rights professor at Georgia State University , is also a proud Università Cattolica alumna. Seeking to enrich her international perspective by adding sociological and economic dimensions to her legal expertise, Monica was admitted to the master's in International Cooperation and Development (MICAD) offered by Università Cattolica’s ASERI Graduate School of Economics and International Relations ( Alta Scuola di Economia e Relazioni Internazionali ) . During her time at Università Cattolica, Monica expanded her worldview significantly beyond her legal background. One highlight of Monica’s experience at Università Cattolica was the community she built lasting connections with professors and fellow students who remain valuable to her professionally and personally. This phenomenon is multi-causal, Monica reiterates, a lot of social inequalities go hand in hand with it and we can even, unconsciously, turn it into a political discussion, when the focus should be on protecting the human rights of those who are vulnerable to the phenomenon. Yet, Monica highlights practical initiatives, such as the USA Hello platform, a non-profit organization where she serves on the board, providing essential information to migrants arriving in the United States (i.e. immigration procedures, enrolment to school, obtaining a driver’s license, etc.).

How Studying Abroad Launched Leopoldo Angelini’s Startup Journey
Home News &; Stories Students and alumni How Studying Abroad Launched Leopoldo Angelini’s Startup Journey How Studying Abroad Launched Leopoldo Angelini’s Startup Journey. From a student–graphic designer at Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore to co–founder of Menumal – a story of curiosity, hard work, and turning international experience into a real-world solution for the restaurant industry. On campus: where passion met purpose Leopoldo didn’t walk onto campus as a polished, recruiter-ready graduate. Although Leopoldo had already participated in several study trips abroad during earlier school years, his first international experience through Cattolica International was a semester as a Free Mover in Maastricht, Netherlands – a high-effort, high-reward experiment. Going global: Berlin, Paris, and the Canary Islands After graduating from Università Cattolica, Leopoldo continued his studies by joining ESCP Business School, studying in Berlin and Paris, with additional time in the Canary Islands during a COVID-era gap year. Menumal grew from that real-world feedback, when a restaurant asked the co-founders – Leopoldo, Leonardo, and Davide – to create a digital menu. How Leopoldo defines success For Leopoldo Angelini, success is a personal journey, defined by both happiness and the positive impact he has on others.
